By now, you have probably heard of the enterovirus strain (EV-D68) that has been sending children to the hospital in a few states, including Colorado. The strain is not new, but is uncommon and not much is known about it. What is known is that it starts as a run-of-the-mill respiratory cold, but becomes more severe in a short a time.
As you can imagine, children with asthma are particularly at risk. As someone with asthma, I know that even a common cold is enough to trigger a serious attack, so this "outbreak" is a pretty concerning. My asthma wasn't diagnosed until I was in 2nd grade, and I can STILL remember how miserable I was until I was finally diagnosed and put on medication. Diagnosing your child (or yourself) is important, and made me think of the offer from Allergy & Asthma Center of the Rockies.
Allergy & Asthma Center of the Rockies offers a FREE Asthma Screening Questionnaire. Now, you're going to need more than just a questionnaire to get everything figured out, but it's a place to start.
You can also get a FREE Nasal Wash Kit, which is a serious must have during cold season! I have one that I use pretty regularly, and I am convinced that my nasal wash kit (plus Airborne®) is what prevented me from getting sick while traveling to and from Italy!
